If Wales are to qualify for this summer’s FIFA World Cup, they will be doing so without their captain.

Manager Craig Bellamy omitted Aaron Ramsey from his 26-man team set to face Bosnia-Herzegovina on Mar. 26 in Cardiff. The winner of that game will host the winner of the Ireland-Italy game, also set for Mar. 26, on Mar. 31. The ultimate victor from the bracket will move on to the World Cup and play in Group B alongside Canada, Switzerland and Qatar. The UEFA Pathway A winner’s first match will be on Jun. 12 against Canada at Toronto’s BMO Field.

The 35-year-old Ramsey has been without a club since departing Pumas in December. Ramsey last appeared for the LigaMX side in September. It’s the lack of match time that led to Bellamy dropping the former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder.

“He hasn’t played competitive football in seven months,” Bellamy said of his decision. “He’s not at a club,” said Bellamy. “[Ramsey’s future] is not really for me to talk about. It’s a situation I’m sure which will resolve itself.”

Wales will also be without a trio of key players who are absent due to injury. Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies (ankle), West Brom defender Chris Mepham (hamstring) and striker Kieffer Moore (hamstring) of Wrexham are all unavailable.
