Livano Comenencia made history for Curaçao on Sunday afternoon in Houston.

The 22-year-old scored in the 21st minute of Sunday’s Group E matchup against powerhouse Germany for the nation’s first ever goal at the FIFA World Cup.

Germany, who are ranked 10th in the world and among the legitimate contenders to win the entire tournament, were heavy favourites coming into this game and scored the opener in the sixth minute off the boot of Felix Nmecha.

After allowing the trying goal, it was all Germany the rest of the way as they would go on to thrash Curaçao by a score of 7-1.

With a population of just under 160,000, Curaçao is the smallest nation to ever compete in a men’s World Cup after qualifying via the CONCACAF region.

Curaçao is ranked 79th in the world.

Comenencia is a right-back and plays for Zürich in the Swiss Super League.
