Kone misses Wednesday’s training due to a fever; no update on status for opener

It appears the Canadian men’s national team has another concern when it comes to the availability of one of its significant players.

Midfielder Ismaël Koné missed Canada’s training session on Wednesday in Toronto with a fever, sources told OneSoccer’s Kristian Jack.

Koné was seen getting into a car and leaving practice right before it began.

Canada Soccer said he was absent for “undisclosed reasons” as there was no update on his status for Friday’s opening game against Bosnia and Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium.

Watch Canada take on Bosnia and Herzegovina LIVE Friday with pre-match coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 a.m. PT on TSN1/3/4, TSN.ca, and the TSN App ahead of the 3 p.m. ET kickoff.

The 23-year-old Koné produced six goals in 36 appearances with his club team Sassuolo of Serie A in Italy this season.

He has four goals in 40 career appearances with the national team.

Star defenders Moise Bombito (leg) and Alphonso Davies (hamstring) both participated in light training on Wednesday, but their status for Friday’s game remains in severe doubt.

Canada named Jayden Nelson to the roster on Tuesday as the injury replacement for Marcelo Flores, who tore his ACL one day after being named to the team.

Jacob Shaffelburg (hamstring), Ali Ahmed (hamstring), Alfie Jones (ankle) are all coming into the tournament with injuries but have been full participants in practice this week.
