Iceland leads Canada 2-0 at the end of the opening half of their FIFA World Cup tune-up Saturday at BMO Field in Toronto on a brace from Orri Oskarsson.

Disaster struck early for Canada when a poor back pass from Kamal Miller led to a premium chance for Oskarsson, who beat Dayne St. Clair to give the visitors an early lead. The Real Sociedad man scored again in the 21st minute, converting on a beautiful ball into the box for his second goal of the match.

The Canadians have had a few chances of their own but was unable to convert against the Iceland back line in the first half.

Saturday’s friendly is one of two matches Canada will play at BMO Field during this international window. They will also play Tunisia on Tuesday with Maxime Crepeau getting the start in net.

Jesse Marsch’s side will play two more exhibition matches this spring – one against Uzbekistan and one against Ireland – before its World Cup opener June 12 in Toronto.

Iceland, ranked No. 75 in the world, did not qualify for this summer’s World Cup. The 45th-ranked Tunisia did, and will play in Group F alongside Japan, the Netherlands and either Sweden or Poland.

Canada was far from full strength for Saturday’s game as a number of key players continue to be sidelined by injury. Alphonso Davies (hamstring), Promise David (hip), Stephen Eustaquio (blood clot), Alistair Johnston (hamstring) and Moise Bombito (tibia fracture) all did not play Saturday as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.
