Four Canadians remain in the singles draw in the first round at Roland-Garros.
Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo was forced to withdraw from his opener against James Duckworth due to injury, leaving Victoria Mboko, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Leylah Annie Fernandez, and Denis Shapovalov as the Canadians still alive in Paris.
Fernandez will open her tournament on Monday against American Alycia Parks.
The 24th-seeded Canadian is 1-1 against Parks in her career and has the most recent victory head-to-head, having won in Miami last year. Parks won their first matchup at the Australian Open in 2024.
Fernandez, 23, has a tough draw in front of her should she advance in her seventh appearance at Roland-Garros. A projected third-round matchup with Marta Kostyuk would potentially be followed by a showdown with four-time Roland-Garros champion and world No. 3, Iga Swiatek.
After reaching the quarters in 2022, Fernandez has not advanced past the third round in any of her next three appearances in Paris.
Mboko will kick off her tournament on Tuesday against 69th-ranked Nikola Bartunkova.
The 19-year-old Burlington, Ont. native is coming off an impressive run in Strasbourg, where she reached the final before falling to Emma Navarro. The world No. 9 has struggled with injury this season as she remains in search of her first title of the season.
Mboko has come up just short on several occasions this year, losing in the final in Adelaide, Qatar, and Strasbourg. Last year at Roland-Garros, she won two main-draw matches in her Grand Slam debut and looks to build on the performance after building momentum on clay in Strasbourg. Potential matchups with Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula, and world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka lie ahead for the reigning National Bank Open champion.
Auger-Aliassime landed in the top half of the men’s draw with a potential showdown with the overwhelming tournament favourite, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, ahead.
The fourth-seeded Auger-Aliassime will open his tournament against Daniel Altmaier. It’s a potentially tough matchup for the Montreal native as the two have split their previous four matchups.
After going out in the first round last year to Matteo Arnaldi, Auger-Aliassime can move into the top five of the ATP rankings and match or surpass his career high (No. 5) with a strong performance in Paris.
Shapovalov will begin his draw against qualifier Jaime Faria and should he advance, could face No. 9 Alexander Bublik in the second round. The Richmond Hill, Ont., native is winless in three matches against Bublik in his career. Beyond Bublik, Shapovalov could face back-to-back matches against American’s Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton in the third and fourth rounds.
Shapavolov was ousted in the second round at Roland-Garros last year by Filip Misolic.
On the doubles side, Ottawa native Gabriela Dabrowski is in top form as she looks to win her third career Grand Slam. She and partner Luisa Stefani enter Roland-Garros as the No.4 ranked pair and are coming off a title win on clay in Strasbourg this past weekend. Dabrowski and Stefani won their first title of 2026 in Dubai and also reached the semifinals at the Australian Open in January.
They will take on the pair of Maia Lumsden and Isabelle Haverlag in the first round on Tuesday.
