Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams will return to singles action in Toronto, as she has been awarded a wild card into the main draw of the National Bank Open in August.

“I’m so thrilled to be back playing in Toronto. It’s a city and a tournament that have always meant so much to me,” said Williams, in a release. “The National Bank Open has been part of my journey since I received one of my first wild cards here at just 15 years old. It’s wonderful to return to a place with so many special memories, and I can’t wait to compete again in front of Toronto’s amazing tennis fans.”

The 46-year-old will be making her 13th appearance at the WTA 1000 event in Canada, where her best result was a finals appearance in 2014.

Williams is scheduled to play in the women’s doubles tournament at Wimbledon with sister Serena, though the match is in question after Serena sustained a knee injury in her first-round singles loss to Maya Joint on Tuesday.

Venus will also enter the mixed doubles event at the All-England Club with partner Kevin Krawietz.

Williams has won a total of 46 WTA tour titles in her career, including nine WTA 1000 trophies.
