The Toronto Tempo could be busy ahead of their first-ever WNBA trade deadline.
The Athletic’s Annie Costabile reports the team is shopping for a young post player and offering a first-round pick in return. Costabile notes that trade proposals to both the Connecticut Sun and Los Angeles Sparks have been shot down with the former proposal coming earlier in the season and the latter offered more recently.
The WNBA trade deadline is set for Aug. 2. The Tempo are currently four games back of the final playoff spot.
Costabile notes that Cameron Brink of the Sparks and Kingston, Ont.’s Aaliyah Edwards of the Sun fit the profile of player that interests the Tempo.
Since WNBA lottery odds are cumulative over two seasons, the expansion Tempo and Portland Fire find themselves in an odd spot where only the current season will count towards their odds. Because of that, the Tempo are more likely to offer a 2028 ahead of a 2027 selection.
The Tempo (10-16) return from the All-Star break later on Tuesday night with a visit to the Minnesota Lynx (22-6).
