The Chicago Sky's home game against the Golden State Valkyries was interrupted when multiple sex toys were thrown onto the court Friday, the second consecutive night for a disruption similar to what occurred in several WNBA games last season.
The incident happened in the third quarter of the Sky's 73-70 victory over the Valkyries. Players stayed on the court while arena personnel removed the items.
Afterward, Sky guard Natasha Cloud denounced what she described as "weird" behavior by the fans throwing the sex toys.
"That hate is unwarranted ... and it says more about the internal struggles of that individual than it ever will say about the collective group [they have a problem with]," Cloud said. "And the men that are throwing it, it shows that you are weak. Like, extremely weak. And it says a lot about how you feel about women."
According to The New York Times, there was a delay for the same reason in the Atlanta Dream's 124-88 victory at the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday. Police in Los Angeles said a male suspect was detained by arena security, received a citation and was released.
There were similar incidents last season in Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles. Some of the incidents resulted in arrests.
