How many group stage games will end in a draw?

The biggest soccer tournament of the summer is right around the corner and the novelty markets on FanDuel are aplenty.

Right now, nine offerings are listed on FanDuel, with options ranging from the fastest goal of the tournament to what song Shakira will open with for her halftime show during the final.

We’ll get to all those markets later, but I want to start with a market I’ve had my eye on all weekend: How many group-stage games will end in a draw?

With 12 groups of four teams there will be 72 group-stage games before the knockout rounds, up from a total 64 in the entire 2022 event.

With more group-stage games, and more third-place teams advancing than ever before, could this be a year we see the all-time mark for draws set at this event?

The most draws in this event’s history came in 1982 when there were 17, with 16 of those coming during the first or second group stage.

The fastest goal scored in tournament history was scored by Hakan Sukur just 11 seconds into a game in 2022. That record is 11-1 to be broken this summer.
