Morning Coffee: Countdown to the summer’s biggest tournament continues with Futures Day

Published:

The countdown to the biggest tournament of the summer continues with Futures Day at FanDuel.

As if the final preps for soccer’s biggest event didn’t keep us busy enough, we saw some champions crowned this past weekend as Alexander Zverev and Mirra Andreeva won at Roland-Garros, J.T. Poston won The Memorial, and Golden Tempo won the Belmont Stakes.

Speaking of Tempo, Toronto cruised to an 85-68 win over the Chicago Fire on Sunday and has now won three of its last four in the WNBA.

Meanwhile, a former Toronto superstar stole the spotlight again in the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday.

Mitch Marner scored a natural hat-trick as part of a four-point performance and the Vegas Golden Knights avoided a potentially historic meltdown with a 5-4 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime to take a 2-1 series lead.

Marner is now -220 as the favourite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy at FanDuel, while Vegas is up to -184 to win the Stanley Cup.

The Golden Knights are -106 to take a 3-1 series lead in Game 4 on home ice tomorrow.

Carolina is -113 to win Game 4 and +152 to win the Stanley Cup at FanDuel.

If you’re looking for my best bets for Game 4, make sure to give me a follow @Domenic_Padula on X.

Game 3 of the NBA Finals is on deck tonight with the New York Knicks looking to take a commanding 3-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs with a win as a 2.5-point favourite at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks are up to -500 to win the title at FanDuel.

While I’m looking forward to the action, my focus this morning is on the final countdown to the biggest tournament of the summer.

Let’s dive right into my favourite FanDuel futures bets in this Morning Coffee for Monday June 8th, 2026.

Countdown To The Summer’s Biggest Tournament Continues With Futures Day

Six teams are +1000 or shorter to lift the trophy at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on July 19th at FanDuel.

Spain, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, and Argentina make up that list of the tournament favourites.

Based on the historical precedent, it would be a surprise if a team that isn’t among those top six choices went on to win the tournament.

Sports Odds History has tracked tournament winner odds dating all the way back to 1982.

Italy won it all that year as the seventh choice at +1800.

Since then, every single champion crowned has been +1200 or shorter to lift the trophy pre-tournament.

In fact, over the last 40 years, only one team has gone on to win it all after entering the tournament at longer than +900 to lift the trophy – France at +1200 in 2018.

If you’re a regular reader of this column, then you likely already know that I bet France at +700 to win the title at FanDuel back in December.

France is now a co-favourite to win the tournament along with Spain at +480.

In terms of talent and depth, I’ll give the edge to a France side that could field an A and B roster capable of reaching the final four in this tournament.

Kylian Mbappe is the favourite to lead the tournament in scoring at +600.

Ousmane Dembele is just as capable of leading both his team and the tournament in goals as a +3000 longshot.

Rayan Cherki, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola, and Michael Olise round out a deep roster of contributors and that depth will be important as they make a deep run.

Meanwhile, FanDuel has also added a market for the Top UEFA Team in the tournament.

Spain is the slight favourite at +330, followed by France at +340, then England at +500.

While I backed France to win the tournament, I believe there is value playing both France and Spain at their current prices to be the Top UEFA Team.

As for a potential dark horse team, I have my eye on the country that will present France with its toughest challenge in Group I in Norway.

Erling Haaland is among the top choices to lead the tournament in scoring, and he’ll get some help from Alexander Sortloth, Antonio Nusa, and Martin Odegaard as Norway returns to soccer’s biggest stage for the first time since 1998.

Hopefully, they acclimate to the conditions quickly.

While they must deal with France and Senegal in a tough Group I, Norway has the talent, structure, and depth to make a run in the knockout stage, regardless of whether they finish first or second in the group stage.

I’ve backed Norway to reach the Round of 16 at +120.

Finally, I’ll circle back with a pair of sleeper picks that I’m convinced have some value after chatting with our soccer analyst Steven Caldwell.

While Team USA remains the favourite to win Group D, Steven is not convinced they have what it takes to finish atop their group.

Months ago, Steven highlighted Turkey as a team that has what it takes to win Group D, and their odds have trended in that direction with Turkey to win its group cut from +250 to +175 since December.

I’ve backed Turkey at +250 to win Group D and would recommend that bet at the current price at +170.

Finally, I’ll lock in two more group winners this morning in Mexico to win Group A at -140 and Japan to win Group F at +270.

Mexico is the most talented team in Group A and deserves a nod for the home advantage it will have playing South Korea, Czechia, and South Africa in the warm conditions in the group stage.

Meanwhile, Steven isn’t convinced that the Netherlands has what it takes to hold off a Japan side that is still nearly 3-to-1 to win its group at FanDuel.

I’ll roll the dice on Japan to surprise as the Group F winner at +270.
