Gavin McKenna is projected to be the first overall pick in tonight’s NHL draft coming in at -2000 on FanDuel, a number that comes with an implied probability of 95.24 per cent.

Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka revealed Thursday the team has locked in their decision and McKenna is certainly hoping he will hear his name called first overall.

“It doesn’t really feel real, but it’s pretty cool,” McKenna said, per The Canadian Press. “Toronto is such a big fan base and passionate fan base. If I do get drafted there, I’d be pumped.

“It was pretty cool to see (the jersey).”

The hype around the 18-year-old is so large that FanDuel already has him -700 to log 50-or-more points as a rookie in 2026-27.

After recording 88 assists and 129 points in his third season with the Medicine Hat Tigers in, McKenna joined Penn State in 2025 registering 36 assists and 51 points in 35 games.

He is also +750 to reach 70 points, something no rookie has done since Mathew Barzal in 2018.
