Morning Coffee: What are the odds Rankin breaks Pringle’s CFL scrimmage yards record?

Published:

The biggest tournament of the summer was always going to come down to the absolute best teams in the world.

Don’t say that I didn’t warn you.

Since 1986, every eventual world champion entered the tournament at 12-to-1 or shorter to lift the trophy.

That streak will continue this summer with a loaded final four that features France, Spain, Argentina, and England.

The top teams delivered again, and now we’re left with four soccer heavyweights who can win it all.

France remains the favourite at +140 at FanDuel, with Spain as the second choice to lift the trophy at +320.

Spain is +122 to upset in the semi-final versus France, which is -140 to advance.

Meanwhile, England is -124 to advance against Argentina and the third choice to lift the trophy at +330.

Argentina will be an underdog for the first time in the tournament versus England at +106 to advance and +390 to lift the trophy at FanDuel.

Hopefully, you tailed me with France to win the tournament at +700.

If you live in Ontario, that was certainly a possibility.

This morning, another province is waking up to the opportunity to bet soccer’s biggest tournament on the FanDuel app just in time for the semi-finals.

North America’s No. 1 Sportsbook and Casino, FanDuel, is now live in Alberta.

Sports betting is provincially regulated, and Alberta marks FanDuel’s first expansion in Canada since its debut launch in Ontario back in April of 2022.

FanDuel is the exclusive sportsbook partner of TSN.

Morning Coffee is where you’ll find everything you need to know to get started on the FanDuel app.

You also might want to check out CFL 3rd and 1.

In addition to wagering on the biggest tournament of the summer, sports fans in Alberta have a lot to look forward to in the coming days, weeks, and months.

The Calgary Stampeders, which are the fourth choice to win the Grey Cup at +700 at FanDuel, are a 1.5-point underdog for Saturday’s Week 7 showdown against the Montreal Alouettes.

Meanwhile, the Edmonton Elks are down to +650 as the third choice to win the Grey Cup at FanDuel and are currently a 3.5-point favourite for their clash with the BC Lions on Friday Night Football in Week 7.

Edmonton is the biggest surprise in the CFL through five weeks, and their star running back has been the biggest reason for their success.

Justin Rankin is off to the hottest start in CFL history.

Of course, the big question is whether Rankin and the Elks can sustain their early season success.

Entering a critical stretch of their schedule, we’re about to find out whether Edmonton is a legitimate contender.

Let’s dive into the numbers in this Morning Coffee column for Monday July 13th, 2026.

What Are The Odds Justin Rankin Breaks Mike Pringle’s CFL Scrimmage Yards Record?

In 1994, Mike Pringle set a CFL single-season scrimmage yards record with 2,414, and sparked Baltimore’s run to the 82nd Grey Cup against the BC Lions.

Four years later, in 1998, he matched his own record with exactly 2,414 scrimmage yards as a member of the Montreal Alouettes.

Not one yard more, not one yard less.

The statistical symmetry is mesmerizing.

He didn’t just own the CFL record book; he signed it in perfect ink, twice.

Four years, pure excellence, zero deviation.

What are the odds Pringle’s PIN is 2414?

Nearly three decades later, Justin Rankin is already ahead of the pace set by Pringle in both 1994 and in 1998.

Rankin has registered 810 scrimmage yards in five games.

If he maintains his current pace, Rankin wouldn’t just set a new CFL single-season scrimmage yards record – he’d clear Pringle’s existing record by more than 500 yards.

Rankin is on pace for 2,916 scrimmage yards this season.

That number includes 1,847 rushing yards on 241 carries, and 1,069 receiving yards on 94 receptions.

He’s also on pace for 26 touchdowns.

Those are video game numbers.

What are the odds Rankin smashes the record?

FanDuel has Rankin to break the single season yards from scrimmage record at +100 – a 50/50 proposition.

That is remarkable.

Meanwhile, Rankin to register 1000 rushing yards and 1000 receiving yards in the same season – something nobody in CFL history has done before – is +430.

FanDuel also set Rankin to break the CFL single season rushing record at +340.

Finally, only Davis Alexander of the Montreal Alouettes has shorter odds (+250) to win CFL regular season most outstanding player than Rankin (+340).

In case you missed it, Aaron Korolnek had an excellent breakdown on what it would take for Rankin to be in the conversation for CFL MOP last week.

Of course, we’re only five games into a long CFL season.

Defences adjust, bodies can break down, and that makes sustaining video game numbers that much more difficult in 2026.

Regardless, Rankin is off to the hottest start in CFL history, and his elite performance as a dual threat back with burst, vision, and hands has carried the Elks to a surprise 4-1 record that is tied for the best in the league.

Edmonton entered Week 1 as the biggest longshot to win the Grey Cup at +1900 at FanDuel.

The Elks are down to +650 to win it all as the third choice behind the Alouettes (+200) and the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders (+460).

In case you missed it, Milt Stegall told Jay Onrait last night that he doesn’t expect Edmonton to slow down anytime soon.

While it’s still early, we’re about to find out whether Edmonton is for real or not over the next two weeks.

First up, the Elks will host the Lions on Friday Night Football in Week 7.

Edmonton is a 3.5-point favourite at FanDuel.

The following week, the Elks will visit the Riders off their bye in the first of a home-and-home.

Then in Week 9, Edmonton will host Saskatchewan.

In Week 10, the Elks visit the favourite to win the Grey Cup in Montreal.

Four games against the top three choices to win the Grey Cup at FanDuel entering the regular season.

On one hand, that’s an absolute gauntlet of a schedule.

On the other, it’s a chance for the Elks to prove something.

Whether Rankin can at least come close to maintaining his remarkable pace will play a huge role in Edmonton’s performances against the Lions, Riders, and Alouettes over the next four weeks.

Nobody is overlooking the Elks any longer.

Suddenly, Commonwealth Stadium is home to the best show in town.

Have a great day, Alberta!
