The final round of the PGA Championship from Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa. featured three Canadians in the field.
Corey Conners, of Listowel, Ont. and Taylor Pendrith, of Richmond Hill, Ont., got the early tee times, while Abbotsford, B.C.’s Nick Taylor had an afternoon tee time in the second-to-last group, sitting two strokes off the lead. Taylor will begin Sunday’s round at 4-under, while leader Alex Smalley sits 6-under.
Conners, 34, finished up his round first with an even-par 70. It was a rather uneventful round for Conners, with just four holes in which he did not record a par.
Conners notched an early birdie on No. 4, where his strong drive and good approach shot set up an easy birdie putt. He also collected a birdie on the Par 4 11th hole alongside bogeys on seventh and 17th.
It was a very different round compared to Saturday, where Conners climbed as high as 3-under in a brilliant front-nine that saw him make birdies on four consecutive holes.
Conners’ round went sideways on the back-nine, though, with bogeys in six of his final seven holes to finish the day at 3-over and essentially out of contention.
Pendrith logged par on 15 of 18 holes on Sunday, carding a 1-over 71 to finish his tournament at 2-over - tied for 47th headed to the clubhouse.
The 34-year-old ran into some trouble midway through his round, logging bogeys on 8 and 10, but added a birdie on the par-3 14th hole with a beautiful 25-foot putt for some positive momentum.
All eyes will be on Taylor, who teed off at 2:25 p.m. ET among the leaders tied for second place.
The 38-year-old was spectacular on moving day on Saturday, claiming five birdies with no bogeys for a 65 on the day.
The last Canadian to win a men’s major was Mike Weir, who won the 2003 Masters in a playoff to earn a green jacket.
