Lowry, MacIntyre looking to find success once again at RBC Canadian Open

The RBC Canadian Open returns to TPC Toronto for the second straight year, with coverage set to begin on Thursday morning on TSN.

The field in Caledon, Ont., will feature several top-10 stars and multiple major winners, including 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry and 2024 Canadian Open champion Robert MacIntyre.

Both appeared on TSN Radio on Wednesday morning to discuss their games ahead of the signature Canadian event.

“I feel like [my game] has been pretty good, but I’ve not really had many great finishes over the last month or a couple of months,” Lowry said. “I felt like I played some great golf last week [at the Memorial]. I like this place. I think I played pretty good here last year, and I would love to give myself a chance here on Sunday.”

“I mean, I don’t see many similarities. This place is different. I mean, that’s this week’s different to what it was last year.” MacIntyre said of the differences between TPC Toronto and Hamilton Golf and Country Club, where he won the title two years ago. “I just need to try and find my golf game. I don’t know. I must have left that in Scotland when Scotland qualified for the World Cup.

“Someone’s going to be happy at the end of the week, and when they lift that trophy.”

MacIntyre hopes a return to the Canadian Open will help turn his game around after missing the cut in three of his past six tournaments. The two-time PGA Tour winner finished no better than 42nd in the other three events where he made the cut. His recent downswing comes after he finished tied for second at the RBC Heritage.

“When things start going wrong, and you feel like you’re in a good place with the swing and stuff, and the ball is still not doing what you’re trying to make it do, that’s when you’ve got to start tweaking things,” MacIntyre said of his recent struggles. “I’m in a spot right now that I don’t like to be in. But at the end of the day, we’re here now.”

Lowry and MacIntyre will open the tournament in a group with England’s Alex Fitzpatrick. The trio represents a strong contingent of European players descending on TPC Toronto, including reigning PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai, Tommy Fleetwood, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

“I did notice that there’s quite a few Europeans playing here this week. I guess we all like coming to Canada,” said Lowry. “This is a great tournament. The crowds come out, and it really feels like a big tournament.”

Ten of the top 30 players in the world (per Official World Golf Ranking) are in action this week, as well as 21 Canadians in the 145-player field, headlined by 2023 Canadian Open winner Nick Taylor, Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, Sudarshan Yellamaraju, Adam Hadwin, and Mackenzie Hughes.

Ryan Fox, the 2025 winner, also returns to TPC Toronto to defend his title.

The RBC Canadian Open is the final tune-up tournament ahead of next week’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, N.Y.
