Mississauga’s Anderson remains in contention after 1-under second round at RBC Canadian Open

Mississauga, Ont.’s Matthew Anderson shot a 1-under 69 in the second round of the RBC Canadian Open on Friday and remains the top Canadian in the field.

The 26-year-old got off to a hot start by making an eagle on the par-5 opening hole at Osprey Valley in Toronto before giving it right back with bogeys on the next two holes.

Anderson would then shoot par on each of the next 14 holes before making a birdie on the 18th, putting him 7-under for the tournament.

Anderson was tied with the lead with five other golfers after shooting a sparkling 6-under in Thursday’s opening round at the RBC Canadian Open.

American Ben James shot 7-under on Friday to take the clubhouse lead at 10-under.

Moose Jaw, Sask.’s Adam Hadwin and amateur Justin Matthews were both 3-under for the tournament following Friday’s action.

Winnipeg’s Nick Taylor, who famously won the Canadian Open in 2023, was 1-over on Friday and sits 2-under for the tournament.

Hamilton, Ont.’s Mackenzie Hughes struggled on Friday, shooting 3-over, pushing him back to 2-over for the tournament.

Listowall, Ont.’s Corey Conners shot a 1-under 69 on Friday and is even par on the tournament.

Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Mississauga hit birdied on the first fourth ninth and 15th hole but bogeyed on the third hole as he finished 4-under on the day and five-under in the tournament.

Canadians Taylor Pendrith, and Adam Svensson among others, all had afternoon tee times on Friday.
