Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was placed on the seven-day injured list with a concussion, the team announced on Saturday.
Guerrero, 27, exited Friday’s 3-1 win over the Yankees in the sixth inning after taking a knee to the head by Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. while sliding into third base.
He was briefly tended to by trainer Jose Ministral before walking into the dugout and he was replaced by Charles McAdoo in the game.
After the game, Schneider told reporters that Guerrero was in concussion protocol and added today that he had a headache last night which lingered into this morning.
The 6-foot right-handed bat has struggled for power at the plate this season, batting .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBI in 115 games.
The Blue Jays recalled outfielder Daz Cameron in a corresponding move.
The 29-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Jays in early July and is hitting .367 with three home runs and 15 RBIs alongside a 1.045 OPS over 23 games with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
Cameron has 160 games of MLB experience with the Detroit Tigers, Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers, hitting .195 with one homer and three RBIs.
Additionally, right-handed pitcher Lazaro Estrada was designated for assignment on Saturday.
Estrada appeared in eight games with the Blue Jays this season and has a 5.54 earned-run average, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits in 13.0 innings pitched.
After Friday’s victory, the Blue Jays enter Saturday’s action one game behind the Detroit Tigers for the final wild-card spot in the American League with a 60-64 record.
