The book is officially closed on Jesus Sanchez’s Toronto Blue Jays tenure.
Designated for assignment by the team on Friday, the outfielder was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Blue Jays announced on Monday.
Acquired from the Houston Astros ahead of the season for outfielder Joey Loperfido, Sanchez appeared in 99 games for the Jays this season. He batted .260 with 70 hits, eight home runs, 35 runs batted in and an OPS of .734 in 269 at-bats. In his final days with the team, Sanchez made a number of fielding gaffes. Sanchez had three errors on the season.
A 28-year-old native of Higuey, Dominican Republic, Sanchez is in his seventh big-league season. He spent the first five-plus seasons of his career with the Miami Marlins.
The Diamondbacks made another Blue Jays-adjacent transaction on Saturday, DFAing former Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
