Outfielder Anthony Santander is making his return to the lineup Wednesday against the Boston Red Sox, batting fifth and serving as the designated hitter.
It will be his first game action at the MLB level since May 29. He’s missed the last several months with a shoulder injury and was officially activated on Tuesday.
The Blue Jays’ biggest off-season signing from this past winter, Santander has struggled in 50 games prior to going on the injured list. The 30-year-old is slashing .179/.273/.304 with six home runs and 18 RBI.
He had 44 home runs and 102 RBI the season before with the Baltimore Orioles and parlayed that into a five-year, $92.5 million deal with Toronto.
The Jays enter play Wednesday with just a one-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East.
