The Columbus Blue Jackets are set to add veteran goaltender Cam Talbot on a one-year, $950,000 contract, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports.
The move comes after the team announced next month that goaltender Elvis Merzlikins is without a timeline for return after undergoing surgery on an a shoulder injury.
Talbot now appears set to slot in behind Jet Greaves on the Blue Jackets depth chart. The team also added veteran Pheonix Copley on a one-year, $850,000 contract on July 1
Talbot, 39, had an 12-9-6 record last season with an .883 save percentage and 3.19 goals-against average with the Detroit Red Wings.
The 6-foot-3 netminder is coming off a two-year, $5 million contract that carried a cap hit of $2.5 million.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Rangers in 2010, Talbot has a career 278-204-53 record with a .911 save percentage and 2.69 GAA split between the Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Calgary Flames, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, and Red Wings.
