The Montreal Canadiens have acquired forward Phillip Danault from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick.
Montreal had acquired the pick from the Columbus Blue Jackets along with forward Patrik Laine in exchange for defenceman Jordan Harris on Aug. 19, 2024.
Danault previously played for the Canadiens from 2015 to 2021.

Danault, 32, had five assists in 30 games with the Kings this season.
A first-round pick (26th overall) by Chicago in 2011, Danault was dealt to the Canadiens along with a second-round pick on Feb. 26, 2016 in exchange for forwards Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann.
He signed a six-year, $33 million contract with an AAV of $5.5 million with the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on July 28, 2021.
Danault has one year remaining on the contract after this season.
The Victoriaville, Que., native has skated in 741 career NHL games, scoring 125 goals with 399 points, split between the Blackhawks, Canadiens and Kings.
