The Montreal Canadiens locked up reigning Calder Trophy winner Lane Hutson, agreeing to an eight-year, $70.8 million extension that carries a cap hit of $8.85 million, the team announced on Monday.
Hutson led all rookies in scoring last season, recording six goals and 66 points in 82 games while averaging 22:44 of ice time. He recorded 25 points in the team’s final 26 games, leading his team to their first playoff berth since 2021.
The Canadiens have agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension (2026-27 to 2033-34) with defenseman Lane Hutson.

So far this season, Hutson has an assist in three games.
The 5-foot-9 left-shot defenceman was drafted 62nd overall by the Canadiens in the 2022 draft and was scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the end of the campaign.
Prior to joining the Canadiens, Hutson played two season in the NCAA with Boston University, recording 30 goals and 97 points in 77 games. He was a Hobey Baker Finalist in both of his seasons in the NCAA.
The Holland, Mich. native represented the United States at the World Championship in 2023, recording two goals and six points in nine games. He also represented his country twice at the World Juniors, winning gold in 2024 and bronze in 2023.
