The Washington Capitals have reached a two-year contract extension with defenceman Timothy Liljegren, it was announced Wednesday.
The deal is worth $6.5 million total and $3.25 million annually.

Liljegren, 26, finished last season with the Capitals after he was acquired at the trade deadline from the San Jose Sharks for a draft pick.
He had one goal and 11 points in 47 games split between the Sharks and Capitals while averaging 19:51 of ice time.
The 6-foot-1, right-shot defenceman is coming off a two-year, $6 million contract that carried a cap hit of $3 million.
Drafted 17th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017, Liljegren has 21 goals and 93 points in 311 career games split between the Maple Leafs, Sharks, and Capitals.
The Kristianstad, Sweden native represented his country at the 2023 World Hockey Championship in a sixth-place finish.
