The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired defenceman Kaedan Korczak in a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for fellow blueliner Parker Wotherspoon.

The Penguins will take on a 50 per-cent retention on Wotherspoon’s contract.

The 25-year-old defenceman appeared in 78 games for the team last season, averaging 15:58 of ice time a night. The Yorkton, Sask. native had three goals and 13 assists. Korczak played in 13 postseason contests as the team reached the Stanley Cup Finals where they ultimately fell to the Carolina Hurricanes in six games.

Korczak was the 41st overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft out of the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets. In 155 games over five NHL seasons, he has four goals and 33 assists.

Korczak is set to enter the first year of a four-year, $13 million contract.

Wotherspoon, 28, just completed his fourth NHL season and first with the Penguins. He appeared in 80 games, scoring three goals and 27 assists over 20:10 of ice time a night.

A native of Surrey, BC, Wotherspoon previously suited up for the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders. He has four goals and 42 assists over 188 career games.

He has one year remaining on a two-year, $2 million deal.
