New York Rangers
Rangers forward J.T. Miller is being evaluated for a lower-body injury he sustained at practice on Monday, head coach Mike Sullivan said.
Miller grabbed the back of his leg and skated gingerly off the ice after lunging for a puck during a power play drill.
Miller was named the 29th captain of the Rangers on Sept. 16. He was acquired by the Rangers mid-way through last season from the Vancouver Canucks and scored 13 goals and 35 points in 32 games with the club.
The Rangers are set to begin their season on Oct. 7 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden.
Washington Capitals
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was cleared for contact and shed his non-contact jersey at practice on Monday morning.
It’s the first time since the opening day of training camp that the 40-year-old has been cleared for contact as he recovered from a lower-body injury.
Head coach Spencer Carbery said Ovechkin had no setbacks in his first full-contact practice since day one of camp, however, he will not play in tomorrow’s preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Ovechkin scored 44 goals and 73 points in 65 games last year as he broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL scoring record. He enters the 2025-26 season three goals away from 900.
Forward Sonny Milano missed Monday’s practice with an upper-body injury, although it’s not related to the injury that kept him out for most of last season, NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti reports.

Defencemen Kaiden Guhle and Noah Dobson were on the ice Monday morning after both were listed as day-to-day with groin injuries following Thursday’s preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Guhle was withheld from the game entirely, while Dobson played 15:16 before being removed from the contest.
The Canadiens training camp roster sits at 29 players after making cuts over the weekend, including injured defencemen David Reinbacher and William Trudeau.

Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck left the ice Monday as he was ‘not feeling right’, Arniel said. The head coach is unsure whether or not the reigning Vezina and Hart Trophy winner will play tomorrow’s game against the Minnesota Wild.
Hellebuyck left the ice prior to the start of the main skate and skated off after squaring up for a shot. He has not appeared in any of the Jets’ four preseason games.

Head coach Jon Cooper said goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy skated on his own this morning and says he will join the main group on Tuesday.
Vasilveskiy, 31, has been dealing with an undisclosed injury in camp and has not taken the ice for practice since Sept. 19.
Cooper didn’t rule out that Vasilevskiy could appear in one of the team’s three remaining preseason games.
A native of Tyumen, Russia, Vasilevskiy posted a 38-20-5 record for the Lightning last year to go along with a 2.18 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.
He finished second in Vezina Trophy voting in 2024-25 behind Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck, who took home the award for the second consecutive season.
The Lightning open the new season at home with an Atlantic Division matchup against the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 9.
New Jersey Devils
The Devils loaned the following players to the AHL’s Utica Comets: G Tyler Brennan, F Josh Filmon, D Jeremy Hanzel, G Jakub Malek, F Cam Squires, and F Dylan Wendt.
Forward Ryan Schmeizer was placed on waivers with the intention of loaning him to the AHL.
The following players were also cut from camp and will report to Utica: F Tag Bertuzzi, G Jeremy Brodeur, F Alexander Campbell, F Brian Carrabes, D Jimmy Dowd, Jr., F Jack Malone, F Matyas Melovsky, D Luke Reid, and D Jackson van de Leest.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers assigned defencemen Ludvig Jansson and Evan Nause and goaltender Kirill Gerasimyuk to the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers.
The club also released goaltender Evan Cormier from his professional tryout. He will report to the AHL.
