Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel received a $5,000 fine on Monday for being the aggressor in an altercation with Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin on Sunday.

Hagel received a double-minor early in the second period of Sunday’s 8-7 loss to the Sabres for going after Dahlin, who was not penalized, in front of Buffalo’s net. Hagel threw his stick down and delivered multiple punches with his gloves on as Dahlin attempted to skate up ice.

The double-minor was part of a total of 11 penalty minutes Hagel received Sunday. The 27-year-old winger posted a goal and an assist in 16:42 of ice time.

On the season, Hagel has 30 goals and 59 points in 57 games with a total of 52 penalty minutes.

The Sabres jumped the Lightning for first place in the Atlantic Division Sunday, but Tampa Bay holds two games in hand as the team sits two points back.
