The NHL is expected to announce it’s World Cup of Hockey plans on the first day of the NHL GM meetings Monday in Florida, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun.

The best-on-best event will take place in February of 2028.

This will be the fourth edition of the eight-team event, previously held in 1996, 2004 and 2014.

The World Cup will follow the success of the 4 Nations Face-Off last February and the Olympic tournament at Milano Cortina 2026 last month.

Canada took home gold in the 4 Nations, while the U.S. defeated Canada for gold in Milan.
