The Ottawa Senators are holding a promotion encouraging fans to trade in their Brady Tkachuk jerseys.
The Senators announced in a post on social media Thursday that they are allowing fans to exchange their officially licenced Fanatics Tkachuk stitched jerseys and save 40 per cent on regular priced merchandise.
The team said the promotion, which includes the message “Chuk out the old jersey” is valid from July 3 to July 7 at Ottawa Team Threads at Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ont.
Last week, the Ottawa Titans, an Ottawa-based professional baseball team that plays in the Frontier League, announced a “Forget Brady Day” on July 7 where fans could trade in their Tkachuk jerseys for a No. 7 A.J. Wright jersey.
Ottawa dealt their former captain to the Florida Panthers on June 21 in exchange for two first-round picks in last week’s draft, a conditional first-rounder in 2029 and a 2027 second-round selection.
Sens president and general manager Steve Staios told reporters at a news conference last week Tkachuk asked the team for a trade. According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, Tkachuk told Ottawa he would not re-sign with the team two summers from now when he was scheduled to become a free agent and provided the Sens a list of four teams he would be willing to waive his no-move clause and accept a trade to. That list included the Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes and Panthers, although Staios said he got the impression Tkachuk was only truly interested in joining his brother, Matthew, in South Florida.
“It was clearly pointed at one team at the end. I feel comfortable with the return given the circumstances,” Staios said on June 22.
Tkachuk said his move to the Panthers was motivated by the chance to win.
“To be a part of a Stanley Cup-winning team is something that has always been my motivation and they have the pedigree,” Tkachuk said. “Every time playing them, and after the game, it’s all about winning. There’s nothing about individuals or individual success. The sole focus in here is about excellence. And they’ve shown the last bunch of years of how excellent of a team they are and their sole focus is a Stanley Cup.”
Tkachuk played eight seasons in Ottawa after being drafted No. 4 overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
