Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki, Colorado Avalanche forward Brock Nelson, and Tampa Bay Lightning centre Anthony Cirelli were named as the finalists for the Frank J. Selke Trophy on Wednesday.
The trophy is presented annually to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game and is voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

This is Suzuki’s first time as a finalist for the award after finishing 13th in voting the last two seasons.
Suzuki led the Canadiens in scoring this season with 29 goals and 101 points to go along with a plus-37 rating.
He also led his team with 29 takeaways and was third among Canadiens forwards with 62 blocked shots.
This is Nelson’s first time receiving votes for the Selke Trophy. He recorded 33 goals and 65 points in 81 games during his first full season with the Avalanche and had a plus-15 rating.
He helped the Avalanche win the Presidents’ Trophy as his team allowed a league-low 197 goals. The 6-foot-4 centre was a key part of the Avalanche’s penalty kill that had a success rate of 84.6 per cent and allowed an NHL-low 36 goals.
Nelson led the Avalanche with with a 50.4 faceoff percentage and posted a career-high 1,459 faceoffs taken.
This is Cirelli’s second straight season as a finalist for the Selke Trophy after finishing third in voting last season.
The 6-foot-1 centre recorded 23 goals and 52 points with the Lightning this past season and his plus-38 rating was good for fourth in the NHL.
Cirelli had a 48.2 faceoff percentage last season and led all Lightning forwards in ice time on their penalty kill that finished with an 82.6 per cent success rate that was good for third in the NHL.
Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov is the reigning winner of the award after winning in consecutive seasons in 2024 and 2025.
Barkov missed the entire 2025-26 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.
