Ice Chips: Leafs recall G Woll with Samsonov away
Toronto Maple Leafs
Goaltender Joseph Woll was recalled from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced Saturday ahead of tonight's matchup with the Ottawa Senators.
Ilya Samsonov, who made 32 saves in a win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday, did not travel with the team to Ottawa as he is dealing with some minor injuries and he and his wife are expecting a baby, TSN's Claire Hanna reports.
Matt Murray is expected to get the start against the Senators.
Woll, 24, has appeared in three games for the Leafs this season, most recently in a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on March 2.
Woll is 2-1 with a 2.04 goals-against average and .938 save percentage in those contests.
The Leafs also recalled forward Bobby McMann.
McMann, 26, made his NHL debut with the Leafs in 2022-23 and is yet to register a point in eight appearances.
Montreal Canadiens defenceman Kaiden Guhle was not on the ice Saturday morning and has been ruled out for tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Renaud Lavoie reports.
Guhle, 21, has four goals and 14 assists in 44 games in his rookie season.
Jonathan Drouin was on the ice Saturday morning after he was not allowed to practice Friday for missing a meeting. However, head coach Martin St. Louis said later Friday that Drouin will be scratched from the lineup against the Lightning.
Drouin has one goal and 25 assists in 46 games this season.
Forward Milan Lucic will be a healthy scratch for the first time since December when the Calgary Flames host the Dallas Stars on Saturday night, TSN's Salim Valji reports.
Lucic, 34, has five goals and 11 assists in 66 games this season with the Flames
Jacob Markstrom will get the start in net for Calgary.
The 33 year old is 19-18-9 with a 2.83 goals-against average and .894 save percentage this season.
