Burnley has added some veteran help in their battle to avoid the drop.
The team announced the signing of veteran midfielder James Ward-Prowse on loan from West Ham.
The free kick specialist was dropped by Hammers manager Nuno Espirito Santo in September and has made just five appearances this season.
“As soon as I heard of Burnley’s interest and spoke to the manager, I knew this loan spell was just what I needed,” the 31-year-old Ward-Prowse said in a statement. “There’s a big battle between now and the end of the season, but I’m going to relish every moment. I just want to get out there, pull on the Burnley shirt and give my all for the challenge that’s ahead.”
A native of Portsmouth, Ward-Prowse joined the Southampton academy at the age of nine and made his senior debut in 2011. He went on to make 344 league appearances for Saints across parts of 13 seasons, including 342 in the Premier League.
He joined Hammers in the summer of 2023 in a £30 million move. Since signing, Ward-Prowse has made 57 league appearances. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Internationally, Ward-Prowse was capped 11 times by England from 2017 to 2022.
Burnley currently sits 19th in the Premier League on 15 points after 23 games, 10 points behind Forest for the final safe spot. They return to action on Monday with a visit to Sunderland.
