Sterling leaves Chelsea by mutual consent

Raheem Sterling’s time with Chelsea is over.

The club announced on Wednesday that the former England winger has departed the Blues by mutual consent.

The Kingston, Jamaica-born Sterling is now free to sign with any club of his choosing.

Sterling, 31, had joined the club in a £47.5 million move from Manchester City in 2022. After two seasons of regular football, Sterling fell out of favour with the club upon the arrival of manager Enzo Maresca, who made it clear that he didn’t figure into his plans. Sterling spent last season on loan at Arsenal, where he made 17 league appearances. The London-raised Sterling hasn’t made an an appearance this season.

Sterling ends his Stamford Bridge career with 19 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions.

A product of the Liverpool academy, Sterling made his senior debut in March of 2012. Following four senior seasons at Anfield, Sterling joined City in 2015 in a move worth nearly £55 million. In his seven seasons at the Etihad, Sterling won four league titles, five League Cups, an FA Cup and a Champions League title.

In 16 senior seasons, Sterling has notched 123 Premier League goals in 396 games. He is 20th all-time in scoring in Premier League history and 12th among English players.

Internationally, Sterling was capped 82 times by the Three Lions, scoring 20 goals. He appeared at three World Cups and two Euros.
