Diego Forlan is at the helm of Uruguay.
The former Manchester United and Atletico striker will manage the national side on an interim basis until a full-time boss can be named either later this year or in early 2027.
Forlan, 48, was capped 115 times from 2002 to 2014 and scored 36 international goals. He represented Uruguay at three World Cups. At South Africa 2010, Forlan was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s top player.
A product of the Independiente academy, Forlan also spent time at Villarreal and Inter before stints in Japan, Brazil, India and back in Uruguay with Penarol. Forlan briefly managed Penarol in 2020.
Uruguay’s vacancy was created when Marcelo Bielsa resigned after Uruguay failed to emerge from the group stage at this summer’s World Cup.
