The field of Canadians at the US Open is down one.

Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo withdrew from the tournament on Thursday. The main draw begins on Aug. 30.

Diallo, 24, has not played since retiring from his second-round match at the National Bank Open in Montreal on Aug. 4 with an apparent leg injury. He had lost the first set to Italian Luciano Darderi, but was up 3-2 in the second when he couldn’t continue. The World No. 92 was visibly upset as he left the court.

It was at the 2024 US Open where Diallo made his longest run at a grand slam, reaching the third round. After upsetting the No. 24 seed Arthur Fils in the second round, he ultimately fell to Tommy Paul in four sets. Diallo was eliminated in straight sets by Jaume Munar last year.

With his withdrawal from Flushing Meadows, Diallo will end his grand slam season with a single victory. He defeated France’s Benjamin Bonzi in the first round at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

Diallo’s lone tournament win came in June of 2025 at the Libema Open in Den Bosch, Netherlands.
