The Toronto Tempo will try to snap an 11-game losing streak tonight in Washington against the Mystics on Wednesday.
It’s the fourth meeting between the teams this season with the Mystics winning the previous three. However, the first two games were decided by a combined four points. The Tempo’s 79-62 loss to the Mystics on July 14 started their current skid.
The Tempo are coming off a 101-95 loss against the Indiana Fever in Toronto on Tuesday. While the Tempo never led against the Fever, they were able to make the game close after trailing by as much as 17 points.
Guard Brittany Sykes returned to the court for the Tempo against the Fever after missing 18 games with a plantar fascia injury in her left foot. Sykes had 15 points, five assists, two rebounds, and one block in 21 minutes of play.
“I was just really grateful, just to be back out there with my team, sharing the ball with them, watching them work,” Sykes told TSN’s Tempo reporter Chelsea Leite after the game. “It’s a different feel when you have that energy together and are going on runs and getting stops.”
The Tempo were strong on the boards against the Fever, outrebounding them 41-32. In her first home game since being traded to the Tempo, Aneesah Morrow had a franchise-record 16 rebounds, one below her career high of 17.
The Mystic are coming off an 80-70 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday.
After leading 41-39 at halftime, the Mystic fell behind in the third quarter, but outscored the Sparks 25-12 in the fourth quarter to retake the lead.
The Mystic are averaging 86.5 points in their last 10 games while the Tempo are averaging 86.1 points. However, the Mystics’ opponents have averaged 82 points per game while the Tempo’s opponents have averaged 101.1 points.
The Mystic are fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 20-14 record.
The Tempo are 10-24 and sit sixth in the Eastern Conference.
