Ohtani, Dodgers massive favourites to win World Series after historic Game 3 win

Published:

Advantage Dodgers.

After splitting the opening two games, the Los Angeles Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the World Series over the Toronto Blue Jays in a historic 18-inning Game 3.

World Series: Blue Jays 5, Dodgers 6 (18) Freddie Freeman hit a Brendon Little offering over the centre field fence in the 18th inning to give the Los Angeles Dodgers a 6-5 win and a 2-1 lead in the 2025 World Series on Monday night. Freeman’s hit, the 16th of the night for the defending champions, ended a six-hour-plus marathon at Dodger Stadium. LAD leads World Series 2-1.

Now with a one-game advantage, the Dodgers are -500 favourites to win the World Series on FanDuel. That number comes with an implied probability of 83.33 per cent.

The Game 3 winner of a best-of-7 World Series tied 1-1 has gone on to win the series 69 per cent of the time (42-19).

Ohtani gets the ball in Game 4 after historic Game 3

Passan on Ohtani: We're witnessing 'the greatest player in baseball history, at his apex' Jeff Passan breaks down Freddie Freeman’s World Series walk-off home run and puts Shohei Ohtani's Game 3 performance against the Blue Jays into perspective.

As if hitting four extra-base hits in Game 3 and reaching base nine times wasn’t enough, Shohei Ohtani gets the start for the Dodgers in Game 4.

The 30-year-old is 2-0 this postseason with 19 strikeouts in 12 innings of work. In his career, Ohtani is 2-1 against the Blue Jays with a 3.32 ERA in 19 innings.

Not many Blue Jays enter the game with experience against Ohtani. Ty France, George Springer and Isiah Kiner-Falefa have at least 10 at-bats against Ohtani.

Here is a look at the team’s history against the two-way star.

Ohtani leads Blue Jays chase pack for MVP

Now that three games of this series are behind us, the MVP picture is starting to take shape.

Ohtani has separated himself from everyone, priced at -280 he is the only player shorter than 10-1 to win the award.

Ohtani is a heavy favourite to win the award for good reason. Monday night, he became just the second hitter in World Series history with four extra-base hits in one game.

A good start on the mound for him in Game 4 could all but secure the award for him.

Behind Ohtani, only three other players are shorter than 35-1.
