Canadian midfielder Ali Ahmed has sustained an apparent knee injury on Saturday while playing with his club team, Norwich City FC.

“It doesn’t look good for the moment. He felt something in his knee, which is never good,” said Norwich City coach Philippe Clement. “Everybody is a little bit devastated after that.

“We need to accept it and see what the case is over the next couple of days, but it doesn’t look good.”

He made 21 total appearances with Norwich City entering Saturday, scoring four goals.

Ahmed, 25, played all six games in Canada’s run to the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Since 2023, Ahmed has made 28 total appearances for the national team, scoring one goal in 2025.

The Toronto native said the World Cup elimination at the hands of Morocco makes the squad hungrier to make an even bigger leap in the coming years.

“You need moments like this, as much as it hurts to say right now. You need moments like this to learn from experience,” Ahmed said. ”This game has such a big mental part. And for us to go through what we’ve gone through today is massive.”
