No. 6 Sukh Chungh – Offensive Lineman 6’3 300lbs

Chungh only jumped up one spot on the Top 20 but given all the new players that came on the list, it shows how strongly he performed at the CFL Combine.  The guard from Calgary performed decently enough in the physical testing but his domination in the 1-on-1’s against the top linemen in the country set him apart.

Chungh's CFL Combine Results

Event Result
Bench Press (225lbs) 25
Vertical Jump 28"
Broad Jump 8'11.25"
40-Yard Dash 5.27
20-Yard Shuttle Run 4.59
Three-Cone Drill DNF

NFL Prospects: Chungh was another player invited to the NFL’s super regional combine on March 21. He won’t be drafted in the NFL but has an outside chance of signing as a free agent.

CFL Prospects: The two-time All-Canadian is peaking at the perfect time. Like Antione Pruneau last year, there is a lot of buzz around Chungh’s performance at the CFL Combine. He will be a top pick but where he goes will depend on if he signs an NFL deal before the draft. If he hasn’t signed with an NFL team, Chungh will go in the first round and likely be a Top 5 pick.

No. 7 Daryl Waud – Defensive Tackle, Western 6’4 282lbs

Western tackle Daryl Waud drops four spots from his No. 3 ranking in the Winter Top 20, but even with that he is likely to be a first round pick in this year’s CFL Draft.  Waud was outperformed in the 1-on-1’s at the CFL Combine but his body of work in the CIS, where he was a three-time All-Canadian, still shines bright.

Waud's CFL Combine Results

Event Result
Bench Press (225lbs) 21
Vertical Jump 31.5"
Broad Jump 7'9.75"
40-Yard Dash 5.12
20-Yard Shuttle Run 4.58
Three-Cone Drill 7.66

NFL Prospects: NFL teams have gotten to know Waud this off-season as he was invited to the NCAA Shrine Game and also earned an invitation to an NFL regional combine (He didn’t advance to a Super Regional Combine).  Has an outside chance of signing as a free agent.

CFL Prospects: If he’s not signed by an NFL team, it would be surprising to see Waud slide past the first round.  He has a lot of upside for the position, but if CFL teams choose to make a run on all the strong offensive line prospects early on, he could fall to Round 2.

No. 8 Lemar Durant – Receiver, Simon Fraser 6’2 232.5lbs

Lemar Durant bursts onto the Top 20 list at No.8 and comes in as the top receiving prospect in this year’s class.  What is eye-popping about Durant, a three-time conference All-Star at Simon Fraser (NCAA Div. 2), is his unique size (6’2”, 232.5) for the position, with some calling him the best receiving prospect since Andy Fantuz. Durant was not dominating in the 1-on-1’s at the CFL Combine, but his testing numbers were excellent.

Durant's CFL Combine Results

Event Result
Bench Press (225lbs) 26
Vertical Jump 36"
Broad Jump 9'11"
40-Yard Dash 4.55
20-Yard Shuttle Run 4.60
Three-Cone Drill 7.35

NFL Prospects: Durant is another player who attended a regional NFL Combine.  Given his size and impressive Combine results, it would not be shocking to see him signed by an NFL team as a free agent.

CFL Prospects: Durant’s physical potential will be hard for teams to resist.  If he’s not signed as a free agent by an NFL team, he should be picked in the first round and has the potential to be the No. 1 overall pick.

No. 9 Nic Demski – Receiver, Manitoba 5’11 204lbs

Despite dropping four spots in the rankings, Demski was deemed the most pro ready receiver at the CFL Combine.  Though he lacks the size of Durant, he performed better than him in the 1-on-1’s against defensive backs.  His testing results were strong as well, especially in the running and agility drills in Day 2.

Demski's CFL Combine Results

Event Result
Bench Press (225lbs) 19
Vertical Jump 32.5"
Broad Jump 9'9.25"
40-Yard Dash 4.56
20-Yard Shuttle Run 4.19
Three-Cone Drill 6.91

NFL Prospects: Demski attended a regional NFL Combine but was unable to advance to a super regional combine.  Given his smaller stature, it will be harder for him to get teams to take a chance and sign him as a free agent.

CFL Prospects: In a lot of years, Demski would be a sure fire first round pick. In this very deep draft he still may go in the first round but depending on which positions teams choose early, he could fall to Round 2.

No. 10 Sean McEwen – Centre, Calgary 6’2 303lbs

McEwen may have dropped in the scouts’ rankings but don’t be surprised if he is picked in the first round of this year’s draft or if he is playing regularly next season in the CFL.  He didn’t hurt himself with his performance in the Combine but he may not have grabbed scouts’ attention like Groulx and Chungh did in the 1-on-1’s.

McEwen's CFL Combine Results

Event Result
Bench Press (225lbs) 27
Vertical Jump 26.5"
Broad Jump 8'11.25"
40-Yard Dash 5.01
20-Yard Shuttle Run 4.84
Three-Cone Drill 7.82

NFL Prospects: Being told there is some interest from NFL teams in the Calgary centre..

CFL Prospects: The feeling is that McEwen could play in the CFL right away. The two-time All-Canadian was all business at the CFL Combine, performing well on the field and in interviews. It would be surprising if he wasn’t picked in the first round.
