Ben Cahoon will become the 11th Montreal Alouettes player to have his number retired by the team during a halftime ceremony Friday night at Percival Molson Stadium.

You can watch the game live on TSN and TSN GO tonight at 7pm et/4pm pt.

Cahoon, who spent his entire 13-year career with the Alouettes, joins a select honoured group that includes former teammates Mike Pringle and Anthony Calvillo.

Cahoon: I never thought about my jersey being retired

Longtime Alouette receiver Ben Cahoon talks about the Alouettes retiring his jersey.

“I’ll never forget the first training camp we put him in,” said Alouettes head coach and general manager Jim Popp on Thursday. “He didn’t drop one ball the entire training camp - it was pointed out by several people and then the legend began.”

At just 5-foot-9, Cahoon emerged as one of the best CFL receivers of all time, second to Geroy Simon in all-time receptions with 1,017 and sixth in career receiving yards with 13,301. He was twice named winner of the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian award.

Remembered for his leaping one-handed grabs, Cahoon’s star often shined brightest on the game's biggest stage.

The three-time Grey Cup champion is first all-time in Grey Cup Final receptions (46) and first in receiving yards (658). Cahoon was also named Most Outstanding Canadian in two of those victories.

“He was a calming effect in the room,” added Popp. “Whether it was his voice or just simply his play to know ‘you can count on me,’ I think he’s that type of human being off the field.”

An Eastern Division all-star 10 times, Cahoon finished his career with nine 1,000-yard seasons. He retired in 2011 and was he was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
