TORONTO - The Toronto Argonauts will remain Trevor Harris's team for now.

The Argos have returned veteran starter Ricky Ray to the six-game injured list as he continues to recover from off-season shoulder surgery. Toronto placed Ray, 35, on the six-game list during training camp, thus giving Harris all of the starter's reps.

Harris has certainly taken full advantage of his opportunity. The 29-year-old native of Marion County, Ohio, leads the CFL in completions (174), completion percentage (75) and TD strikes (16) and is second in passing (1,987 yards).

Most important, Toronto (5-2) is tied with Hamilton (5-2) atop the East Division standings with the fourth-year Harris under centre.

Harris's play allows Toronto the luxury of not having to rush Ray back too quickly. Argos head coach Scott Milanovich wouldn't say when Ray might return but added it's obvious the veteran needs more time to fully recover.

"He still needs a few more weeks, minimum," Milanovich said. "I know he had a good throw the other day and felt good about that but he's not there yet."

Harris will start Sunday when Toronto plays Ottawa at Rogers Centre. With the Argos having a bye after hosting Hamilton on Sept. 11, a potential return date for Ray could be for their road game Sept. 26 against the Redblacks.

Kicker Swazye Waters (hip) participated in Tuesday's walkthrough practice but did not actually kick. He's expected to do so Wednesday and Milanovich is optimistic the CFL's top special-teams player last year could suit up against Ottawa.

"We'll have to see how he kicks and how he reacts but I'm hopeful he'll be ready to go," Milanovich said.

Linebacker Corey Greenwood (concussion) could be medically cleared to resume play this week and therefore eligible to play against Ottawa. Milanovich said receiver Kevin Elliott (ribs) and running back Brandon Whitaker (undisclosed) could return this week but isn't expecting slotback Chad Owens (ankle) to be ready to play.
