TORONTO - Toronto Argonauts defensive co-ordinator Tim Burke has resigned due to personal reasons and will be replaced by linebackers coach Casey Creehan effective immediately, the CFL team announced Friday.

"I have accepted Tim Burke's resignation from our staff," head coach Scott Milanovich said in a statement. "We would like to thank Tim for his contributions to our team last year and wish him and his family well in the future."

Burke joined the team in December 2013 as a replacement for Chris Jones, who left the Argonauts to become the head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos.

Burke, a former head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, had worked with Milanovich in the past.

They helped guide the Montreal Alouettes to Grey Cup titles in 2009 and 2010 under head coach Marc Trestman. Milanovich was an offensive co-ordinator and Burke was a defensive co-ordinator.

Burke first came to the CFL in 2005 as a defensive backs coach with the Calgary Stampeders.

Creehan, meanwhile, has over 15 years of coaching experience at various levels. He was the Hamilton Tiger-Cats' defensive co-ordinator in 2012 and held the same position with the Blue Bombers in 2013 while serving as Winnipeg's linebackers coach.

Milanovich was expected to provide more details on a conference call later Friday.

Toronto missed the playoffs last season after finishing third in the East Division with an 8-10 record.
