Bortles nearing end of run with Jaguars?

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has had an up-and-down career in his three seasons since Jacksonville drafted him third overall in the 2014 draft, and perhaps now the team may be looking to hitch their wagon to one of this year's incoming pivots instead. Recently, The Ringer's Mike Lombardi had some very strong comments about Bortles' play, leaving no doubt that he does not believe that the 24-year-old Bortles is a franchise signal-caller and that the Jags should move on from him.

"Coughlin’s going to draft a quarterback. [Bortles] doesn’t make plays down the field, he gets in the two-minute and is a disaster and his accuracy down the field is horrendous. ... He has to be a guy they have to replace. This is the perfect draft to do it."

If the club is indeed planning on drafting a quarterback early to eventually takeover its reigns, it makes sense that it would do it this year. The Jaguars, who hold the fourth overall pick in this year's draft, have yet to make a decision on whether to pick up Bortles's fifth-year contract option or allow the fourth-year player to become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2017 season. For his career, Bortles has thrown for 11,241 passing yards and tossed 69 touchdowns versus 51 interceptions in 46 games.

Weak receiver class?

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel polled 16 scouts asking them to rank the best wide receivers on a 1-to-5 basis with a first-place vote being worth five points, second-place worth four and so on. Western Michigan's Corey Davis won the poll with 65.5 points and 5.5 first-place votes, Clemson's Mike Williams was second (58.5, 4.5 firsts) and Washington's John Ross was third (51.5, six firsts).

An unnamed NFL executive told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the top ranked wide receivers in this year’s draft are the worst prospects that he's seen in a long time.
