ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Brenden Kichton's goal in the opening minutes of the third period held up as the winner, and the St. John's IceCaps held off a late comeback attempt to edge the Binghamton Senators 6-5 in American Hockey League action on Tuesday.

St. John's led 6-3 with less than five minutes to play, but gave up two late goals — including one at 19:15 of the third period.

Chase Bailey, Carl Klingberg, and John Albert had a goal and two assists apiece for the IceCaps (2-2-2), Kris Fredheim also scored and Patrice Cormier added a short-handed goal in the first period.

Chris Wideman and Derek Grant had a goal and an assist for the Senators (1-2-1), and Buddy Robinson, Cole Schneider and Garrett Thompson also found the back of the net.

Connor Hellebuyck made 29 saves for St. John's.

Andrew Hammond started in net for Binghamton, stopping 20 of 26 shots over 43:13. Scott Greenham was perfect on eight shots in relief.
