Puig, Shvedova advance to quarters of Claro Open
Monica Puig of Puerto Rico advanced to the quarterfinals of the Claro Open Colsanitas on Thursday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over American player Nicole Gibbs. Gibbs jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first set before the second-seeded Puig rolled off six straight games to capture the set and go up 2-0 in the second.

Puig will next play No. 5 seed Yaroslava Shvedova, who routed American qualifier Sachia Vickery 6-0, 6-2.
Colombia's Mariana Duque-Marino reached the quarterfinals in Bogota for the fifth time, defeating Germany's Tatjana Maria, 6-4, 6-4, and Julia Glushko of Israel beat Alexandra Panova of Russia 6-4, 6-2.
