The Oakland Raiders appear ready to follow the NHL's footsteps into Las Vegas.

According to Forbes, the Raiders filed a trademark application for the rights to the mark "Las Vegas Raiders" on August 20.

The team's interest in heading to Sin City has been well documented since the franchise was shut down on a move to Los Angeles.

Owner Mark Davis has been leading the team's charge and stadium plans are currently under review by the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee.

As Forbes notes, trademark applications don't guarantee a move as the San Diego Chargers applied for the rights to "Los Angeles Chargers," but do suggest the team is viewing relocation as more than a threat.

Earlier this year, the NHL announced plans to place an expansion team in Las Vegas for the 2017-18 season - the first of the Big 4 leagues to expand to Nevada.
