Stampeders hold lead in CFL Power Rankings

Going into Ottawa and earning a road tie was enough for the Calgary Stampeders to hold on to the No. 1 spot in the TSN.ca CFL Power Rankings.

Going into Ottawa and earning a road tie was enough for the Calgary Stampeders to hold on to the No. 1 spot in the TSN.ca CFL Power Rankings.

The Redblacks offence has been amazing, through three games, but the edge, for now, goes to Calgary.

Moving up this week, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers climb from nine to six after earning a road win at Hamilton. The Montreal Alouettes dropped a couple of spots because of questions over the health of veteran quarterback Kevin Glenn.

Since no team managed to make it through even three weeks with three wins, it appears that there will be some fluctuation in these rankings over the course of the season. They're relatively closely bunched at this stage.

The Stampeders fought to a 26-26 tie in Ottawa, and while it would have been better to come away with a win or hold the Redblacks under 500 yards, a road tie against the second-ranked team isn't enough to knock the Stampeders out of top spot.

While the Redblacks couldn't finish off the Stampeders, they continued their aerial assault, with Trevor Harris continuing to excel. He's completed 80% of his passes for 1083 yards and nine touchdowns in three games, and WR Chris Williams has a record-setting 493 receiving yards through three games. Can the duo be stopped?

Key Injuries: RB William Powell (Achilles), RB Travon Van (knee), QB Henry Burris (finger)

It didn't come easily, but the Eskimos leaned on QB Mike Reilly (378 passing yards, 4 TD, 1 INT) and WR Adarius Bowman (141 YDS, 3 TD) to hold off a spirited challenge from the Roughriders. Giving up 36 points, at home, doesn't earn a big endorsement for a team that should be a contender, but at least better to win than lose this one.

Key Injuries: DB John Ojo (Achilles), DT Don Oramasionwu (triceps)

RB Brandon Whitaker rolled up 152 yards from scrimmage at B.C., and the Argos defence had success against the Lions, forcing QB Jonathon Jennings to the bench. If the defence is going to show it's for real, a match-up with Ottawa is certainly going to provide a sufficient test.

Brought back to earth by the Argos, in a 25-14 home loss, the Lions still come away with some positives from the defeat, including a strong relief appearance from QB Travis Lulay (12 for 15, 156 YDS, 1 TD, 1 INT) and an impressive showing by RB Anthony Allen, who gained 139 yards from scrimmage.

Key Injuries:  RB Jeremiah Johnson (ankle)

Signs of life from the Bombers, who forced five turnovers to earn a 28-24 win at Hamilton. QB Drew Willy (279 passing yards) and RB Andrew Harris (104 yards from scrimmage) were solid contributors, but CB Maurice Leggett led the way defensively, with a sack and two interceptions.

Key Injuries:  C Jeff Keeping, CB Johnny Adams, DB Bruce Johnson, LB Sam Hurl, DB Teague Sherman

After an impressive first game of the season in Toronto, QB Jeremiah Masoli struggled for the second straight game and the TiCats have lost back-to-back games. The good news is that Zach Collaros is off the six-game injured list, even though he's not expected to play this week.

The big concern for the Alouettes, who fall after a bye week, is whether or not QB Kevin Glenn will be ready to go Friday night against Hamilton, even while eye problems prevented him from practicing early in the week. Glenn may not be great, but he's a clear step up from backup Rakeem Cato.

Key Injuries: WR S.J. Green (knee), QB Kevin Glenn (eye)

Saskatchewan Roughriders

Losing by three in overtime at Edmonton is hardly an indictable result for the Roughriders. QB Darian Durant had a big game, passing for 317 yards and four touchdowns, and that provides more reason for long-term optimism.

Key Injuries:  DE Eric Norwood (knee), G Chris Best.
