Tiger-Cats return to top of CFL Rankings

The back-and-forth battle atop the CFL Power Rankings has resulted in another change, as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have reclaimed top spot from the Calgary Stampeders.

Coates, Tiger-Cats celebrate

As the CFL season has settled down and the best teams have separated from the pack, there are still changes in the CFL Power Rankings, as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have reclaimed top spot from the Calgary Stampeders following Calgary's loss at Edmonton.

Oh, and the Eskimos eked past Calgary this week too.

Moving down, the B.C. Lions have stumbled lately and drop from six to seven this week. The Lions offence is generating the fewest yards per game (308.6), while the defence allows the most (407.4)

It wasn't as easy as the Labour Day rout, but the Tiger-Cats earned a 35-27 win at Toronto, with Luke Tasker and Terrell Sinkfield continuing to put up good numbers in the passing game. It's enough for the Ticats to return to the number one ranking after a couple of week at number two.

Key Injuries: DT Brian Bulcke (knee), DT Linden Gaydosh (Achilles), RB C.J. Gable (elbow), WR Andy Fantuz (arm), DE Eric Norwood (undisclosed), DB Johnny Sears Jr. (undisclosed) and S Mike Daly (undisclosed).

QB Mike Reilly has been injured for most of the season, but after throwing for 352 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Calgary, the Eskimos pull ever-so-slightly ahead of the Stamps.

Key Injuries: RB John White (Achilles), G Simeon Rottier (knee), WR Shamawd Chambers (knee), G Greg Wojt (concussion).

Calgary Stampeders

This Week: 3 | Last Week:1 | Record: 8-3

Just as it looked like there might be some continuity at the top, with the Stampeders on top, they were locked down at Edmonton, which resulted, not only in a drop from top spot, but down past the Eskimos too.

Key Injuries: DT Corey Mace (foot), T Dan Federkeil (leg), T Edwin Harrison (leg), RB Jon Cornish (thumb).

Toronto Argonauts

This Week: 4 | Last Week: 4 | Record: 6-5

  • YDSA/GP
    390.8

After getting outscored 115-54 in the past three games, the Argos are reeling and, following a bye week, desperately need to stop the bleeding with a pair against Ottawa coming up over the next few weeks.

Key Injuries: QB Ricky Ray (shoulder), SB Andre Durie (knee).

Ottawa Redblacks

  • YDSA/GP
    322.8

A big road win at B.C., with RB Jeremiah Johnson turning into a weapon offensively, has the Redblacks up to second place in the East. With a matchup against Saskatchewan upcoming, Ottawa could build some momentum before their matchup with the Argos.

Key Injuries: WR Marcus Henry (undisclosed), MLB Travis Brown (shoulder).

Montreal Alouettes

  • YDS/GP

  • YDSA/GP

A good week to have a bye, apparently, as the Alouettes benefit from B.C.'s home loss and move up a spot.

Key Injuries: DE Aaron Lavarias (arm), WR James Rodgers (undisclosed), QB Dan LeFevour (shoulder), QB Jonathan Crompton (shoulder), LB Bear Woods (pectoral), QB Rakeem Cato (hip).

B.C. Lions

Through msot of the first half of the season, RB Andrew Harris was a viable MOP candidate, but it's been a rough road lately, as he has only 209 total yards in the past four games.

Key Injuries:  QB Travis Lulay (knee).

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

This Week: 8 | Last Week: 8 | Record: 4-7

TEAM STATS

  • YDSA/GP
    374.5

Bounced back to beat the Roughriders, after sleepwalking through the first half, but that's a start. Matt Nichols has provided a QB upgrade and the Bombers still went out and traded for former Clemson star Tajh Boyd.

Key Injuries:  QB Drew Willy (knee), RB Paris Cotton (arm), WR Darvin Adams (upper body).

Saskatchewan Roughriders

This Week: 9 | Last Week: 9 | Record: 1-10

TEAM STATS

  • PF

No winning streak for the Riders, and they had serious difficulty moving the ball against Winnipeg, but Rome wasn't built in a day, so legitimate improvement may take some time.

Key Injuries:  QB Darian Durant (Achilles), ILB Shea Emry (neck), QB Kevin Glenn (shoulder), SB Chris Getzlaf (lower body).
