What are Bucks' requirements to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Will he stay or will he go?

That’s the question surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo as Thursday’s NBA Trade deadline approaches.

Tuesday night, Antetokounmpo said this to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel about his future with the team.

“If you ask me what do I really want, deep down in my heart? I want to be a Milwaukee Buck until I retire and win a championship here. End of sentence.”

As it stands, the Milwaukee Bucks lead the way at -160 on FanDuel to have Antetokounmpo under contract following Thursday’s deadline.

That number comes with an implied probability of 61.54 per cent.

However, Antetokounmpo had this to say in his very next sentence.

“If that is not possible to happen, and if then you realize maybe that’s not the case and maybe they’re looking elsewhere and that’s not what they’re trying to do, then automatically you have to be in the plans of what they’re trying to do or weigh the other options. It’s normal.”

Totally normal.

With all that going on, let’s circle back to this betting market.

After opening at +2200 to trade for Giannis, the Minnesota Timberwolves now have the second-shortest odds on FanDuel at +210 in the midst of reports linking the two teams.

That line movement in a market like this is also totally normal.

With all the noise around a potential Giannis deal, we have seen the Chicago Bulls move from 40-1 to +400, back to +2500 over the last 72 hours, and the Miami Heat continue to fluctuate between +500 and +1100.

Antetokounmpo is currently playing on a three-year, $175.4 million deal. He is owed $58.45 million in 2026-2027 and has a $62.786 million player option for 2027-2028.

Currently out with a calf injury, Antetokounmpo has appeared in 30 games this season, averaging 28.0 points on .645 shooting with 10.0 boards and 5.6 assists over 29.2 minutes a night.

For now, it appears the Timberwolves are the biggest threat to make this deal happen. Here is a look at the full market offered on FanDuel.
