DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Canadian diving duets Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion and Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware captured silver medals on the FINA World Series on Thursday.

Benfeito, from Montreal, and Filion, from Laval, Que., were second in the 10-metre synchro event with 321.27 points, finishing behind world champions Ruolin Chen and Huixia Liu China of China (324.66). The Canadians were leading after three rounds but dropped to second following a slight mistake on their fourth dive.

"We've never been this close to the Chinese," said Filion, from Laval. "It breaks our heart a little bit that we made that mistake on the fourth dive. If we would have done it well we probably would have won. But still we showed today we are getting closer."

Montreal's Abel and Ware took silver on the three-metre synchro with 315.51, finishing behind Minxia Wu and Tingmao Shi of China (338.10).

Philippe Gagne of Montreal and Vincent Riendeau of Pointe-Claire, Que., were fourth on men's 10-metre synchro, missing the podium by less than seven points.
