The National Basketball Association is aware of an incident on Monday night that occurred between Sacramento Kings centre DeMarcus Cousins and Sacramento Bee columnist Andy Furillo in the Kings' locker room.

Cousins took umbrage with a column that Furillo had written in regards to an alleged incident that took place earlier this month at a New York City bar involving Cousins and teammate Matt Barnes. The pair has has been named in a civil lawsuit that alleges the 36-year-old Barnes choked a woman at the bar while Cousins "sucker-punched" her boyfriend. In the column, Furillo referenced a report from May that Cousins and his brother were involved in a fracas at a Tampa Bay nightclub.

In a video published on the Bee's site, Cousins can be seen sticking a finger in Furillo's face and telling him not to mention his brother again. Kings guard Garrett Temple got in between the two before Kings' spokesperson Chris Clark intervened.

The Kings released a statement on Thursday saying that the team is looking into the matter.

"We are committed to being open and transparent, and any hint of media censorship is unacceptable,” the team said in the statement. “There is an ongoing review into this matter, and we will take the appropriate steps immediately upon its conclusion.”

USA Today's Sam Amick reports the league is aware of the incident and could mete out discipline in the coming days.
