Eskimos rule CFL Power Rankings

The Edmonton Eskimos continued their late-season run at the top of the TSN.ca CFL Power Rankings, maintaining an edge on their rivals from Calgary.

While the Eskimos have decent offensive numbers, their late offensive surge has been keyed by the passing game, with QB Mike Reilly taking advantage of his weapons on the outside, most notably Derel Walker and Adarius Bowman.

There's a little shuffling of places below the top two, with Ottawa up to three, Toronto down to four, Hamilton up to five and Montreal down to six, but that kind of fits with how this season has been going. A couple good teams at the top, a couple dogs at the bottom and a lot of variability in the middle.

A late surge from QB Mike Reilly, taking advantage of his downfield options Derel Walker and Adarius Bowman, is making the Eskimos even more difficult to catch; it's been four straight weeks at the top of the rankings table.

Key Injuries: RB John White (Achilles), G Simeon Rottier (knee), WR Shamawd Chambers (knee), G Greg Wojt (concussion).

Calgary Stampeders

The Stamps aren't letting the Eskimos pull away, and Calgary may have a more dangerous running game with Jerome Messam continuing his impressive season with 121 rushing yards on 15 carries against his former team from Saskatchewan.

Key Injuries: DT Corey Mace (foot), T Edwin Harrison (leg), DB Joe Burnett (ankle), MLB Juwan Simpson (clavicle), RB Jon Cornish (neck), T Dan Federkeil (leg), DB Fred Bennett (arm).

Ottawa Redblacks

  • YDSA/GP
    324.2

The Redblacks have been relying on a potent offence for much of their second-half surge, but had to grind out a 12-6 win at Hamilton last week. And they get to do it again in Ottawa in the last week of the season, with the East Division title up for grabs.

Key Injuries: MLB Travis Brown (shoulder).

Toronto Argonauts

This Week: 4 | Last Week: 4 | Record: 9-8

  • YDSA/GP
    375.6

QB Ricky Ray was okay (26 of 38, 227 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) in his first start of the season, but wasn't a difference-maker and the Argos need better play at quarterback if they are going to finish strong.

Key Injuries: SB Andre Durie (knee).

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

  • YDSA/GP
    335.4

Heading into the final game of the season, the Tiger-Cats are, naturally, going with their third-string QB (Jacory Harris?) because if anything has been emblematic of Hamilton's 2015 season, it is that injuries will force them to fight uphill.

Key Injuries: DT Brian Bulcke (knee), DT Linden Gaydosh (Achilles), DE Eric Norwood (undisclosed), DB Johnny Sears Jr. (undisclosed) and S Mike Daly (undisclosed), QB Zach Collaros (knee), QB Jeff Mathews (concussion).

Montreal Alouettes

  • YDS/GP

  • YDSA/GP
    359.4

Between RB Tyrell Sutton and QB Kevin Glenn, the Alouettes have some playmakers, but there was too much upheaval at quarterback this season, and they lost five of six down the stretch to miss the playoffs.

Key Injuries: DE Aaron Lavarias (arm), WR James Rodgers (undisclosed), QB Dan LeFevour (shoulder), LB Bear Woods (pectoral), QB Rakeem Cato (concussion).

B.C. Lions

Came up with a big win in Toronto, even with RB Andrew Harris held in check, but the Lions have some options for rookie QB Jonathon Jennings, including wideouts Lavelle Hawkins and Emmanuel Arceneaux.

Key Injuries:  LB Solomon Elimimian (Achilles).

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

  • YDSA/GP
    390.7

Lost five of six down the stretch to get removed from playoff consideration and get to play out the string against Toronto in Week 20.

Key Injuries:  QB Drew Willy (knee), RB Paris Cotton (arm).

Saskatchewan Roughriders

This Week: 9 | Last Week: 9 | Record: 2-15

Giving up 32 points per game, on average, seems a good way to finish at the bottom of the pack. It's been a rough season for the Riders, and they really didn't seem to bad early on, but the losses just started snowballing.

Key Injuries:  QB Darian Durant (Achilles), ILB Shea Emry (neck).
